Upgrade to Master License

The OUPV, or “Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels,” is commonly known as the 6-pack license because it allows the captain to carry up to six paying passengers on an uninspected vessel. This license is perfect for fishing guides, sightseeing operators, dive boat captains, or anyone who wants to run small private charters. Even if the vessel itself is large, the OUPV strictly limits you to six passengers maximum. The OUPV license is available for Inland, Great Lakes, or Near Coastal routes (up to 100 miles offshore). It is considered an entry-level credential that opens the door to professional charter operations.

Starting in 2026 the Upgrade to Master course will be exclusively ONLINE!
The Master Upgrade is for those who have already completed the OUPV course. The Master license allows you to operate both inspected and uninspected vessels, and carry more than six paying passengers. The Master license carries tonnage endorsements of 25-, 50-, or 100-tons based on your experience. The Master license is considered a professional-level credential and can open the door to larger vessels, and broader maritime career opportunities.

Assistance Towing Endorsement
4 COURSE HOURS
The Assistance Towing Endorsement is required if you will be engaged in towing a disabled vessel for payment. Any USCG license of 200 gross tons or less, including an OUPV/Six-pack Captain's or Master 25-50-100 Ton License, may be endorsed for assistance towing.
